Violation of bicycle equipment requirements
ORS > Vehicle Code > Bicycle > 815.280
(1) it's a violation of this statute to do any of the following:
(a) operate a bike on the highway in violation of the requirements of this statute
(b) being a parent or guardian of a minor child or ward and knowingly permits the child or ward to operate a bicycle on any highway in violation of the requirements of this statute
(2) a bike is operated in violation of the requirements of this statute if any of the following requirements are violated:
(a) failing to equip the bike with a brake able to stop the bike within 15ft from 10mph on a dry, level, clean pavement.
(b) installing or using any siren or whistle
(c) failing to equip a bike or its rider with lighting equipment that must:
(A) be used in limited visibility conditions
(B) show a white light visible from a distance of 500ft or more from the front
(C) have a red reflector or a lighting device or material visible at distances up to 600ft to rear when directly in front of a motor vehicle's low beams
(3) nothing contained in this statute will be construed to prohibit the use of additional parts and accessories on any bike consistent with this statute
